University Hospital Medical Center Bezanijska kosa (short UHMCBK) is a state-owned, non-profit, general hospital located in Belgrade, Serbia. This much respected health institution have 360 hospital beds available and more than a 840 employees, with a physician’s base of over 180 specialists practicing in more than 50 areas of expertise. The hospital provides services to more than 220.000 outpatients and has around 17.000 inpatient admissions per year.

Beside advanced capabilities in inpatient and outpatient care, the facility serves as a teaching hospital for the students and resident physicians of the Belgrade University School of Medicine as well as the students of the High Nurse School.

The hospital also promotes disease prevention through its educational activities and work with the patients. Screening programs for breast cancer and colorectal cancer are implemented in the everyday program.

History

UHMCBK was founded in 1956 by the Municipality of Belgrade as a sanatorium for treatment of tuberculosis. It was reorganized in 1978 and transformed in a general hospital based on internal medicine and surgery departments. A fast diagnostics and health evaluation department – Medik Center, was established in 1994 .

The hospital recently underwent an extensive renovation that included establishing new de luxe hospital suites, updating ORs and renovating the public space.

The present day medical complex of more than 20.000 sq. m. was completed in 2007 by an addition of a new modern outpatient clinic.

Clinics and Departments

UHMCBK is a general hospital based on four clinics – internal medicine, surgery, oncology and joint medical department.

Internal medicine clinic departments: Pulmology, Clinical Immunology and Allergy, Cardiology with Coronary Care Unit, Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Endocrinology, Hematology, Inpatient and Outpatient Department.

Surgical clinic departments: General and Abdominal Surgery, Orthopedic and Traumatology, Urology, ICU, OR and Sterilization, Inpatient and Outpatient Department.

Oncology clinic departments: Medical Oncology, Chest Surgery, Inpatient and Outpatient Department.

Joint Medical departments: Anestesiology and ICU, Radiology, Laboratory, Pathology, Blood Tranfusion, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

Radiology department is one of the few in the country with full specter of various imaging technologies available, consisting of state of the art equipment such as:

  • Computed tomography multislice 64-channel scanner
  • Spiral CT scanner
  • 2 Magnetic resonance imaging systems
  • 2 Angiographic theatres (one for heart angiography)
  • Digital and conventional X-ray equipment
  • Mammograph
  • Advanced endoscopy equipment in gastroenterology, urology, pulmology…
  • Ultrasound systems for diagnostics in cardiology, internal organs and soft tissue diseases
